Light A Candle/Say a prayer for Children...40 Days worth of Christan Love!

The needs of the world's children should be a priority for all of us as individuals, groups, and communities of faith. Not all of us have been afforded the gift of working directly with children, but none of our lives has escaped the touch of a child in some special way.

Covenant invites you to join in praying for a brighter future for all of God's children. Remember our church can and should make a difference where the needs, hopes, & dreams of children are involved.

Please sign up, it's easy. Our "Light A Candle & Say a Prayer for Children" vigil begins Sept. 11th, 2011 and ends on Oct. 21st, 2011.

To sign up simply follow this link to my "Doodle Page". Click on the day you would like to participate (it doesn't matter at all if somebody else already has that day, just sign up) go to the faaaaaar right hand, bottom corner and click save. It's that simple.
Then on the day you signed up, simply find a spot (anywhere: work, school, home, etc...), locate a candle (any candle will do), light it, and say a prayer for our children and children all over the world. I'll send each of you a prayer you can recite on your chosen day or you can develop your own, you choose. Try to keep the candle lit for as long as you can so that it can remind you throughout the day.

Thank you so much for your support. I truly believe we CAN make a difference in the lives of children!

Peace,

Randy Holste

Up-Coming Events For Covenant Youth (5th - 12th graders)

Just a reminder...we have a few events coming up for Covenant Youth!!!!

THIS SUNDAY!!! (Not an originally scheduled youth event, but something you guys WILL LOVE!!!!)

*We've been invited to tour the Hindu Temple with the K2K crew. I will definitely be there and would love to see all of you there as well. It is an AWESOME experience to meet youth & families who are from a different religious background!!! The families are great - you'll learn about Hinduism, tour their facility, meet their deities, have the opportunity to ask questions, etc...I do hope you can join us for this event!!!!!

NEXT WEEKEND!!! (Date changed earlier this month)

*On Saturday (May 21st) @ 10 AM, we will be meeting at Covenant to embark on an excursion to Jordan Lake for an overnight camping trip!!! We are slated to return to the church on Sunday afternoon by 12 PM. Get your camping gear ready and trek on out with us as we set up camp, cook our food over an open flame, roast marshmallows, go hiking, fishing, & swimming, & tell scary stories by the campfire! BRING YOUR FRIENDS - ALL ARE WELCOME! ***I need to know who can go & who is unable to attend before Friday afternoon (May 13th - 4 PM) so I can reserve our spot(s) at Poplar Point Campground.

Currently, we have 2 chaperones for this event: Myself & Ms. Nippert, however, if we have some camping enthusiasts who would like to join us...let me know and we can work you into the equation.

(FYI: We will be attending a program called C.A.S.T on Sunday AM for our "fishing" portion of the expedition, so if you don't have any experience with fishing or do not have the equipment - don't worry! Also, I have 2 tents at my disposal, however, we may need another - depending on the number of youth & guests attending!)

June 8th!!! (Date changed due to work availability)

*On Wednesday night June 8th - ALL YOUTH (5th - 12th grades) are invited to assist the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina! One of the biggest operations in the country is in need of assistance. This place is HUGE and they are always looking for voluteers to assist the program with feeding North Carolina's under-privileged &/or struggling population! Let's show them what it means to be a true Christian! Join me on Wednesday evening June 8th @ the FoodBank to make a difference!!!

30 Hour Famine - This Weekend! - (Youth 5th - 12th grade)

Hello to all youth and families!

This weekend @ Covenant we have a special opportunity for all YOUTH (5th-12th grade)!

We will be having a lock-in @ the church (Covenant Youth Only) that will be dedicated to learning about hunger & how famine affects people around the world, even here at home. This will not be a typical "lock-in", sure there will be lots of fun and energetic activities, however, we will be VERY committed to learning about famine and how we as a congregation can do something about it!

The program we will be following is called "30 Hour Famine". One of the primary learning features of the program is for each person/youth to "fast" for 30 Hours. The goal will be to have each youth go without food from 12 AM Friday to 6 AM Saturday. Certainly they can have water, fruit juices, vitamins, etc..., but we would like the youth to have a tiny experience of what it means to be hungry! This adds to the experience and the understanding of what others have to go through on a regular basis.

(*ALTHOUGH WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE FULL PARTICIPATION FROM ALL YOUTH - WE WANT EACH FAMILY & YOUTH MEMBER TO FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH THIS SITUATION, THEREFORE IT WILL BE THE DISCRETION OF EACH FAMILY TO FULLY PARTICIPATE OR NOT). We will provide breakfast on Saturday morning, however, there will not be food available on Friday night! [with the exception juices & water - they will be readily available for all youth at all times] If you so choose not to follow the program during the rest of Friday - that is your call as parents/caregivers. The Famine Resources actually note that participants under 12 yrs. old should proceed with caution and probably consult a physician 1st. They have alternatives to a full 30 Hour fast (one of them being "skip a meal" which is what they could do if they came on Friday night.

I want this program to be a life-changing event. We will dive deep into the statistics of hunger, starvation, & poverty, as well figure out ways we can help. Although a primary goal for the night's event is to discern/decide what kind of fundraiser we can attempt to raise money for the cause in the coming months, the other thing we will be doing is actually putting "school kits" together for Church World Service. This is where we will need your help! If your youth could bring supplies with them (list below), we will make as many kits as we can & we will make sure they are delivered properly. These kits can be used in countries that have been ravaged by famine, flooding, earthquakes, Tsunamis, etc...) Just another way we can open our minds to the world and how we can make a difference.

Finally, I ask that all the youth spend some time after breakfast to hang out with some other Covenant members and friends as we "clean up Covenant"! Festivities will end @ 11 AM.

The Agenda, Supplies List, & What to Bring & Not Bring will be emailed to you shortly. Let me know if you did not receive an email by 12 PM Wednesday afternoon (3/23/11).
